Sonya Arreola

Project Director

Sonya Arreola joins DPS as Research Director for the Gay Men and Aging Study. The study will assess relationships among health, structural racism and discrimination, resources, and biomarkers of health among African American, Asian American, Latinx, and White older gay men. Sonya has been part of DPS for many years, starting as a TAPS and VP fellow, then as a consulting faculty/mentor in the VP program, which she will continue. Sonya delights in gathering with family and friends. Music is one of her passions; favorite composers include Violeta Parra, Charles Mingus, and Shostakovich. Poetry and fiction are also essential pleasures. A current poet she is reading is Atsuro Riley and the most recent novel she relished was Drive Your Plow Over The Bones Of The Dead by Olga Tokarczuk. She eats dark chocolate daily.

Dr. Arreola is the Research Director on the gay men and aging study and works on the CAPS Visiting Professors Program.
