Capacity Building Assistance (CBA) for HIV Prevention and Care at UCSF CAPS

Our CBA program is designed to support organizations, health departments, and community groups working in HIV prevention and care. We provide individualized training, consultation, and skills building to help strengthen programs, improve services, and make a bigger impact in communities.

UPLIFTS: UCSF Partnership for LGBTQ+ Inclusive and Friendly Treatment and Services

UPLIFTS is a collaborative effort between the UCSF Division of Prevention Science (DPS) and the UCSF Alliance Health Project to support Community Health Centers (CHCs) in providing inclusive, culturally responsive services to LGBTQ+ communities.

Through customized training, technical assistance, and peer learning opportunities, UPLIFTS works with CHCs to strengthen their capacity to provide welcoming, affirming, and effective services.

Practical strategies for creating transgender- and gender-diverse-affirming environments and providing respectful services.
Creating a Trans-Inclusive and Affirming Workplace

Introduction to Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity
Foundational concepts related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender diversity in healthcare settings.

Health and psychosocial concerns affecting LGBTQ+ older adults and strategies for creating welcoming and responsive services.
Advancing LGBTQ+ Health Equity: Understanding Disparities and Improving Care
An overview of LGBTQ+ health disparities, minority stress, research challenges, and approaches providers can use to respond.

Clinical Skills, HIV Prevention, and Client Engagement

PrEP/nPEP
PrEP and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), including client decision-making and referrals to navigators and prescribers.
Motivational Interviewing
A collaborative, client-centered approach that helps clients explore ambivalence and identify their own motivations for change. Introductory, intermediate, and advanced options are available.
How Do I Ask That?
Strategies for asking clients about sensitive topics, including substance use, overdose risk, HIV, PrEP, STIs, and SOGI across cultural differences.
Reducing Stigma for Clients Who Use Substances
Strategies for discussing substance use and harm reduction with clients in non-stigmatizing ways.
