Shubhra Gupta, MD, MBBS

Associate Professor

Shubhra Gupta is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF with a strong focus on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, dedicated to enhancing clinical outcomes and operational efficiency through a Lean problem solving approach. She works on the inpatient services at UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Health St Mary's Hospital. Shubhra is the Quality, Safety and Value site director for Hospital Medicine at UCSF Health St Mary's Hospital. She serves as a medical student Coach in UCSF School of Medicine's Clinical Microsystem Clerkship (CMC) and co-directs the clinical patient safety and Quality Improvement elective for the UCSF Internal Medicine Residency.

Shubhra is passionate about the development of future physicians by mentoring trainees and using innovative teaching strategies to integrate continuous improvement learning in all medical education. Committed to interdisciplinary collaboration, optimizing care transitions, and implementing system-wide improvements to ensure high-value, patient-centered care. Her leadership focus is in Quality Improvement (QI) and Patient Experience realms. She has successfully been leading Quality Improvement efforts at St Mary's Hospital, including establishing Unit Based Leadership Team that has instrumental in improving Length of Stay, Patient and Provider Experience, Telemetry Utilization and Glycemic Management to name a few.
In addition to running health systems improvement projects, the focus of Shubhra's current academic work is on medical education of quality improvement for medical students, residents and faculty development including mentorship of QI projects.
