Gender-based discrimination and HIV stigma among transgender women in Brazil is linked to avoiding HIV testing, health services, and HIV status disclosure. They want HIV prevention interventions that combined socio-structural interventions (peer empowerment and social support) with biomedical interventions (e.g., PrEP). (J. Sevelius & S. Trans Amigas: Improving health outcomes for trans women living with HIV
- The Trans Amigas project was launched in May 2018 with support from a small NIH grant, including training of 9 transgender women living with HIV to provide support and guidance for up to 150 participants either just starting care or re-starting HIV treatment after leaving treatment for a time.
