While many health services in healthcare are implemented within the walls of a clinic, the San Francisco VA Healthcare System is shifting their digital strategy to provide direct to Veteran services focused on prevention. Technologies providing direct to Veteran outreach, include Foodshare (grocery delivery to improve food security), VeText (post-discharge text messaging), and an AI Health Coaches (behavioral nudges to improve medication adherence). We review the data behind such interventions and pathways to implementing nationally scaled health technologies that provide direct to community services focused on prevention.
Dr. Priya Joshi is the Chief Health Informatics Officer of the San Francisco VA Healthcare System as well as a hospitalist. She received her medical doctorate at the Sydney Kimmel Medical Center and completed residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She works to ensure VA technologies are built to directly empower Veterans with the tools they need to prevent negative health outcomes.
