CAPS/DPS Town Hall presents: Pam Murnane, PhD, MPH -- Geographic Mobility in Pregnant and Postpartum Women in Kisumu County, Kenya

Lecture/Seminar
-

Geographic mobility is common among young adults in sub-Saharan Africa and can be a barrier to continuity of HIV care. In South Africa, women frequently seek antenatal care away from home, deliver far from home, or travel for postpartum support from family. However few studies have examined mobility around the time of pregnancy in eastern Africa among women living with HIV. In this presentation we describe the multidimensional nature of mobility among pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV in western Kenya, and the forms of mobility associated with viral non-suppression.

Pam Murnane, PhD, MPH, is an epidemiologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UCSF. Her research interests are in the societal, biological, and behavioral factors that influence maternal and child health outcomes in the context of HIV in settings with limited resources.
