When you contact us, please briefly describe your program of research and population (e.g., promoting Latinos’ engagement in HIV care, intervention research with adolescents, PrEP uptake promotion for adult Black MSM) and primary research methods (e.g., primarily qualitative, primarily quantitative, or mixed methods).

1. Be a US citizen or permanent resident.
2. Be affiliated with an institution that is eligible to receive federal money.
3. Be eligible to be a Principal Investigator at their home institution.
4. Not have received funding as the Principal Investigator of a funded NIH R01 grant.
5. Not have delinquent student loans.

Our program consists of mentoring and the mutual support of participating scientists. To ensure a cohesive group and maximize our ability to work with you during the limited time of the summer program, we require that program participants attend the summer program for its entire six-week period each summer (for three consecutive years) without absences.

To ensure a cohesive group and maximize our ability to work with you during the limited time of the summer program, we require that program participants attend the summer program for its entire six-week period each summer without absences.

Applicants must commit to complete the yearly evaluation form and return it to the program coordinator.
3. Progress Reporting
NIH, the sponsor of our program, requires us to provide annual progress reports that include up-to-date lists of our program participants’ publications and funded research grants. Therefore, once per year we ask current and past participants in the program to send us an updated CV that includes an up-to-date list of publications and grants awards.
4. NIH Funding Acknowledgement
Applicants must commit to crediting the VP grant in publications resulting from the utilization of resources of the VP program by including the NIH funding acknowledgment and complying with the NIH Public Access Policy.
5. Research Time
Applicants must commit to spending 25% of their time annually on research. This should be demonstrated in both the institutional support letter and the research availability plan.
