Join ASTHO and CDC for a webinar to learn how Prevention Research Centers (PRCs) and public health partners are reducing health disparities by implementing nutrition policies and programs that increase access to healthy food in low socioeconomic communities.
Hilary Seligman, associate professor at the University of California San Francisco PRC and director of the CDC’s Nutrition and Obesity Policy Research and Evaluation Network (NOPREN), will discuss how Feeding America is improving national nutrition policies by analyzing barriers to fresh produce access in foodbanks and implementing nationwide healthy food policies for fresh produce distribution.
- Understand how PRCs and other affiliated partners within NOPREN develop and evaluate effective nutrition policies.
- Learn how state health departments can partner with PRCs to improve access to nutrition in low-income and low-access communities.
- Gain ideas for working with community partners to reduce health disparities by implementing nutrition policies and programs.
What are Prevention Research Centers?
CDC supports 26 Prevention Research Centers (PRCs) connected with accredited schools of public health or schools of medicine to conduct prevention research. PRCs work within seven thematic networks to translate research into effective programs to support national initiatives that improve public health. NOPREN funds several PRCs to collaborate and develop effective nutrition policies that increase access to affordable healthy foods in communities.
