Please join us for a talk by Dean Peacock, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Sonke Gender Justice, an award winning South African NGO working across Africa to prevent gender-based violence, reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS, and promote human rights. Dean is currently a visiting scholar at CAPS, and he is an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town’s School of Public Health and an Ashoka Fellow. He is an internationally recognized expert on masculinities and serves on many advisory boards, including the UNAIDS Technical Task Team on Men and HIV, the UNAIDS Global Coalition on Women and AIDS, the Nobel Women’s International Campaign to Stop Rape and Domestic Violence in Conflict, and the U.N. Secretary General’s Network of Men Leaders on gender based violence. He has worked closely with Dr. Sheri Lippman as a co-PI on a number of clinical trials in South Africa’s rural Mpumalanga province to assess the impact of community mobilization on GBV and on uptake of treatment as prevention.
